After running into traffic on the second turn and in early stretch, Gold Square’s Cyberknife found his best stride late when clear to win the $1 million TVG.com Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) July 23 at Monmouth Park.
The Brad Cox trainee ran 1 1/8 miles in a track record 1:46.24. He secured an exacta for gun runner when he put in a rail-skimming run to edge Taiba , also a son of the Three Chimneys sire. Favored Jack Christopher racing two turns for the first time, finished third after pressing the pace set by longshot Benevengo .
Sent off at odds of 7-1 under Florent Geroux, Cyberknife ($17.60) won his second grade 1 after taking the Arkansas Derby (G1) earlier in the season. He entered the Haskell off a narrow victory in the June 12 Matt Winn Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs.
