Of the remaining quarterback-needy teams, the Cleveland Browns have been the betting favorite to eventually land San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. They are waiting to learn the fate of Deshaun Watson, who is likely facing a league-issued suspension.
According to BetOnline.ag, there is a new betting favorite, though—the New York Giants. With training camps kicking off across the NFL this week, oddsmakers believe Garoppolo could be headed to the East Coast.
It’s worth noting that the Giants are the betting favorite to be Garoppolo’s next NFL team. That says nothing about how the 49ers quarterback gets there. San Francisco would like to trade Garoppolo, getting something for the quarterback they acquired in 2017 from the New England Patriots.
If a trade partner can’t be found, and with Trey Lance being the undisputed starter in Santa Clara, the 49ers might be forced to release Garoppolo and his hefty salary.
Below are the current odds for Garoppolo’s next team.
- New York Giants, +200 (+350 last week)
- Cleveland Browns, +225
- Seattle Seahawks, +350
- Houston Texans, +500
- Detroit Lions, +600
- Chicago Bears, +1400
- New York Jets, +2000
- New Orleans Saints, +2200
Garoppolo underwent shoulder surgery on March 8. While he passed his physical on Tuesday, the team excused him from participating in training camp activities.
“We’re saying, ‘Go ahead, you don’t have to be here,'” head coach Shanahan said on Wednesday. “[If] he wants to be, he can, but … we understand every part of this situation. I think both sides know each side is doing as good as we can [to make a trade happen].”
Last week, the Browns were -200 to land Jimmy G, but there’s a new favorite in town

Teams with the best odds to land 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo
Where will Jimmy Garoppolo eventually land? Oddsmakers are trying to figure that out. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback is 31-14 since the trade from the New England Patriots in 2017. He was part of the 2019 squad that reached the Super Bowl. This past season, he helped guide the 49ers on an impressive playoff run that ended with the team’s second NFC Championship Game appearance in three years. The 49ers want to move on from Garoppolo, ushering in the Trey Lance era. Garoppolo has been recovering from the shoulder surgery he underwent on March 8. However, he started throwing weeks ago. On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the quarterback had been cleared

Bucky Brooks on 49ers’ QB situation, Jimmy Garoppolo to Seahawks
Analyst Bucky Brooks recently broke down the quarterback situation for the San Francisco 49ers in a lengthy and thorough feature for Fox Sports. If you haven’t already read it, I recommend you take a look. Second-year player Trey Lance is poised to take over the starting quarterback job in Santa Clara. Jimmy Garoppolo has been the starter for most of Kyle Shanahan’s head coaching tenure and remains on the roster—seemingly complicating things and generating a lot of offseason media attention. San Francisco had hoped to trade Garoppolo in March. The quarterback opting to undergo shoulder surgery as the 49ers were involved in

Texans insider says Houston sold on Davis Mills, 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo ‘is not coming here’
While the possibility of Jimmy Garoppolo landing with the Seattle Seahawks has been a hot topic this week, discussion of another potential landing spot is receiving less attention. No, not the Cleveland Browns, who await suspension news on quarterback Deshaun Watson. It’s Watson’s former team, the Houston Texans. While Houston has expressed little concern about entering the 2022 season with second-year quarterback Davis Mills helming the offense, Garoppolo would seemingly be an upgrade if the team wants to win more games. There is a connection too. Texans general manager Nick Caserio was the director of player personnel in New England when the Patriots drafted Garoppolo. One Texans insider can’t envision a scenario where Garoppolo ends up with the Texans, though.
