First trailer for Marvel star Cate Blanchett’s new movie

Cate Blanchett stars in the first trailer for her new film TAR from director Todd Field.

The Marvel actress stars as conductor Lydia Tár in the psychological drama which is set to premier at the Venice International Film Festival.

The unsettling trailer opens with Blanchett blowing smoke as she recites a monologue about time, saying: “Time is the thing. Time is the essential piece of interpretation. You cannot start without me. I start the clock. However, unlike a clock, sometimes my second hand stops, which means time stops.”

Meanwhile Blanchett recently signed on to appear in the third season of absurdist mockumentary series Documentary Now! created by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Rhys Thomas.

The actress will be joining the cast of the episode titled ‘Two Hairdressers in Bagglyport’, where she’ll star alongside Killing Eve‘s Harriet Walter.

The episode will offer a fly-on-the-wall-style look at a slice of life in the small coastal village of Bagglyport as a salon owner, played by Walter, and her staff (Blanchett) prepare their yearly stylebook. Armisen is also set to appear as George the Postman.

Tar is due for release in cinemas on January 20.
